Space Design Group is Allison Whitmore and Leslie Drinkwalter; they are a local Norfolk firm specializing in creating beautiful spaces through the utilization of interior design, custom furniture, art and antiques. They like to support local businesses, and we are lucky enough to have them as our regular customers. We were so thrilled when Allison approached us to create some floral designs for a magazine shoot. The December issue of Distinction Magazine was to feature Space Design Group and some incredible interiors they have designed. We had so much fun taking part in the shoot. Above are just a few pictures of arrangements we did.

I met my friend Katy Blevins at a past wedding- she took the shots, we made the flowers. Turned out she was the childhood friend of another friend of mine. Crazy how connected we all are. Katy is an awesome photographer, and she has an amazing heart. She just radiates kindness and warmth in a way that I can’t quite explain.
Here is a link to a sweet little piece she wrote about my mom and I a few months ago.

Finally! A blog post! Life has been such a wonderful whirlwind lately, so much that it has been hard to settle down to begin here. Above is a picture of Studio Posy. Located in Downtown Norfolk, Studio Posy is a mother/daughter owned shop that specializes in unique botanicals and custom floral design. We offer everyday arrangements, and full-service wedding and special event design. As it is just the two of us, we are involved with every detail from beginning to start. And we don’t care how many times you call, email, or stop into the shop, we just want your event to be perfect! If you haven’t met us before, I’m Marissa, and my mom is Carol. Little did she know that after retiring a few years ago, she’d soon be back at work, helping me build my dream. Thanks, Mom!

Succulents, cacti, air plants and custom built terrariums are just a few of the things we typically have available in our shop. We think that life is so much better when surrounded by plants and flowers. This is our passion, and we are happy to share this with our friends, people who pass through the Monticello Arcade (where our shop is located), our brides, and our regular customers. We try to hold monthly classes at the shop. In the past these have included terrarium workshops, and floral-arranging classes. These are always so much fun- it is so cool to see how excited people get when they are able to create their own masterpiece. We share nibbles and drinks, and chat and learn. I will be sure to blog about past classes and let you know when new ones are happening here.

Another thing that we are passionate about is sustainability and our local community. We try whenever possible to support other local businesses. In the Spring and Summer we get flowers from Lisa Ziegler, a flower farmer on the Peninsula. Her flowers are all chemical-free- and they are glorious. And because they didn’t have to fly half-way around the world to get here, they last twice as long as flowers from the wholesaler, and three times as long as flowers from the grocer. When designing flowers for weddings, I tend to prefer using flowers that are in season. I also like mixing in different elements that aren’t always typical ‘wedding fare.’ I love to mix succulents, interesting foliage, and air plants into bouquets; and we always prefer a lush, sublime look.

The community aspect has become so important to us since we joined the downtown community. It is so wonderful to stroll down the street while making a delivery and recognize familiar faces. I feel like we have become close friends with some of our regular customers- it feels like somehow they have joined our family. I also love being a part of the local design community. We have so many amazingly talented individuals in our town. Floral designers, graphic designers, photographers, hairstylists, writers, architects, carpenters, makeup artists, chefs, musicians, dancers, governor’s magnet school kids, etc.- I feel so lucky to be surrounded by so much awesomeness. I hope that if you visit the shop you will feel welcomed, and get a sense of our joy. Our little shop/studio has been described as a ‘feast for the senses’– this descriptions delights me to no end. If we haven’t met yet, then I hope to meet you! And if we have met, and you are just stopping by, then: Hi, Friend!
Welcome to our blog.
